7th-11th Century AD. Gilt bronze, size 8 1/2 with oval-shaped bezel with the diagonally scored surface. Either decorative or to serve as a signet. Rounded/ridged face band 2.4mm at the bottom flaring to the hatched shoulders. Dating to the period of artistic reversal known as the Dark Ages, after the fall of Rome. It is the period of the spread of Christianity and pilgrimages to the Holy Land before the Crusades. This example is professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. Large wearable size.
